My group’s project regards extraterrestrial life, particularly if it exists and if it has been covered up. The government’s control of information could significantly impact this topic. Since we are investigating potential government coverups of UFO sightings, alien encounters, and other extraterrestrial events, it will be hard to find sources to support this (assuming they exist). As seen with COVID misinformation, the Government can control the results found on google and other search engines. We have also seen instances where the Government has erased all evidence of people working for certain corporations. For example, when an employee of Pfizer was recorded and posted online talking about the company, Pfizer promptly removed all evidence of him working there. Similarly, if the Government did not want people to know about aliens, they could easily have any concrete evidence removed. If this is the case, there are likely only false leads and rabbit holes about aliens left on the internet. To overcome this obstacle, we will likely have to follow many leads that bring us to nothing. We hope to find a reliable story that is somehow not censored. Additionally, Psy-Ops and propaganda issues raise the question of whether misinformation exists that cannot be falsified surrounding this topic. If the Government used operatives to trick reporters and create a sense of fake validity, the Government could easily push one narrative surrounding extraterrestrial life. On top of the Government potentially removing evidence they do not like, they could make it seem like a specific narrative is the truth. The PsyOps articles also introduce the possibility that emotional manipulation could be at play as well. The government could be using manipulation to cause us to believe that they have our best interest in mind and that they are not feeding us false information.
